A pier may seem to be a daunting home project. It has to sit in the water, is usually on a rise and doesn’t seem like something an amateur would want to try constructing, even for their own home. Thanks to Wickcraft, the company which created a new lock-together pier system, regular people can now take on the job of pier construction with relative ease.
How does it work? In Wickcraft’s case, the piers have been designed to work together which makes for easy assembly. Traditionally, piers rely on pilings that have to been put deep into the bottom of a lake and are part of a complicated system of supports and engineering. Decking adds to the complex and specialized aspect of the set up. With help from Wickcraft, those complex pier construction days have been replaced with something better and easier.
With Wickcraft’s setup, you get a custom pier system that stands up to the elements, but is light enough that it can be put together easily. The new pier system comes pre-made with a deck, frame and walkway which take a lot less time and knowledge to assemble. You can have a place to pull in your boat thanks to the easy, step-by-step process Wickcraft has come up with.
Here’s how the system works. The Wickcraft dock’s frame pieces lock together using the posi-lock system, which is made so that one piece grabs hold of another and locks it down. After the frame is made, you add the decking on through pre-drilled screw holes. After that, the dock is ready to go. An additional feature is disassembly — the deck can just as easily be disassembled during the off-season months and put into storage. This keeps it from the wear and tear of the weather and will add years to its life.
The ease of the system allows you to build this dock on your own, so there is a lot that’s up to you. You decide the length of the pier and can even put it into the water if you want. If you do, you will have to decide whether you need supporting posts and stabilizing plates that prevent the dock from sinking.
However, be sure to check your lake bottom just in case you do need a little extra help. For very muddy bottoms, you may need extra-large stabilizing plates to keep the pier up. But since you’ve saved money putting everything together yourself, getting those pros to come in will be worth it. You want stability in your pier, so adding plates, while not a lot of work, is important.
There’s a reason people want to live near the water. They want to be able to enjoy their boat and the outdoors. If you do, then you will want the best dock you can get and now, because of ease of assembly as well as durability, you can’t get much better than the posi-lock Wickcraft dock and pier system. Putting it together is such a snap, you will soon be pulling your boat up and getting started on some fun.
