The benefits of aerobics are amazing and the best part is, it's fun, easy, and can be done in the privacy of your own home. Your don't have to be a member of a high-priced gym, no special clothing is required, and you can choose the style of music you enjoy most.
People have the impression that it is mundane and boring. And it can be at times. That’s when you need mix it up a bit. Do something different.
Beginners should first build up their stamina. Set a goal to finish a mile at a steady pace without stopping. Once you can do that, start going a little further each time. It could be another twenty feet or a quarter mile.
When I first started I couldn’t go a half mile. I reached that and kept going. On an average day I’ll do four to five miles. Longer days are seven miles plus.
Running for an hour or longer can become monotonous. The trick is to keep your mind from counting the minutes and miles. The first thing I suggest is an MP3 player. It helps to keep my mind off how much further I have to go. It seems when I think about that my legs start to get really heavy.
If you have been sedentary or not active for a prolonged period of time, if you have had any recent physical problems or surgery, particularly of the joints and muscles, please consult your physician before you start a stretching or exercise program.
You can stretch any time you want: at home, work, at a bus stop, walking your dog, you can stretch anywhere.
Using proper stretching techniques is vital to avoiding injury. You should warm up a little before you actually start stretching, then stretch after physical activity. Try to stretch at various times of the day, holding your position for a count of thirty. Never bounce or force the stretch.
Physical activity and exercise assist in maintaining cognitive skills and reducing the risk of dementia. It does not mean one should run a marathon or spend hours in the gym. Being physically active means completing household chores, going for a walk, or joining the neighborhood kids for a quick game of kickball . Naturally , if people prefer to join a gym, find one that fits your interests.
The International council on Active Aging reports that 87% of older people report at least one foot problem. Purchase a good pair of shoes and socks. According to the American Podiatric Medical Association, foot pain is not a normal part of the aging process. Comfortable shoes and socks are a solid investment.
Many people are chronically sleep-deprived and are constantly operating on less than all cylinders because of it. If you want to perform your best at school, at work, at the gym, or on the basketball court, then you need to give your body time to rest and repair itself after an active day.
A reduction in stress can lead to better sleep and a better mood. Your mood is regulated partly by a neurotransmitter called serotonin. What physical activity does is it boosts serotonin in the brain which in turn calms our mood. So if you are still in doubt regarding the benefits of exercise, try to follow a workout regimen for about two weeks and experience the results for yourself.
