If you work at home and are looking at purchasing property, you should think of how your home will impact your business. The neighborhood, building appearance and inner structure will all have a bearing on your work, especially if you meet with clients at your house. Setting up an environment that puts your clients at ease can be greatly aided by the careful choice of your home and neighborhood.

Does your home business meet the requirements of the zoning laws of the area? You had better check or at least make sure that your business isn't going to come under fire if you have a dispute with a neighbor.

When you are touring properties, the first thing is to look at the neighborhood. An attractive neighborhood makes clients easy about coming to your home. Do you think your clients will be comfortable coming to this neighborhood? Do the surrounding homes reflect care and maintenance? Is there ample parking or can you direct your clients to an area where they can park safely without incurring damage or fines?

Is it easy to find the home? Unless the difficulty is a simple one, like a seller forgetting to clip the hedge around the address sign, you might want to consider whether clients can find the neighborhood and the home easily. An address sign is easy to install, fix or replace, but a house that requires some very specific directions and knowledge of the area can be a detriment if you need clients to find you without too much trouble.

Look at the home itself from the outside. Does it look neat and well cared for - would you feel all right about visiting this home if you were a client? Keep in mind that some homes only require a little TLC for them to shine, but you will have to think carefully about a home that resembles a dwelling place for the Addams Family.

Are the entrances accessible by wheelchair and by people with other disabilities? If there's a chance that you will be serving clients who need assistance walking, a wide walkway and no stairs are a definite bonus. Are the halls big enough for wheelchairs and easy mobility? Most importantly, is the path between the entrance and your office/area for entertaining clients easy to navigate?

Your office set up is largely a matter of personal taste, but if you have furniture and accessories that must be part of it, ensure that your target office area is able to contain them. Look beyond superficial color and decor; that can all be changed if necessary. It's the navigable space that is going to determine if this is going to work for you and your clients.

Keeping an eye out for client-friendly features is a great idea when considering a home for purchase. While they are not the only factor, an accessible home office in a well-appointed home can go a long way to setting the stage for successful business transactions.
