Dee Marie in, is chastity overrated? Would have you believe that “both men and women should spend some time sowing their wild oats before settling down because unless one experiments with different sexual partners, one cannot really get a good idea of the kinds of sex that are enjoyable or objectionable” I must say that such a statement does nothing but promote promiscuity and heightens the level of sexually transmitted disease, it also damages self confidence as most of the teenage girls would end up feeling like sexual objects. It is obvious she does not recognize the benefit of remaining a virgin until marriage, a very admirable quality in an individual particularly in today’s society.

She refers to the importance of comparing sexual experiences, but all this does is to create dissatisfaction in either or both married couples which could in turn lead to adultery. Emphasizing extremely on the need of premarital sex she focuses consciously or not on lust and not love, she focuses on the physical gratification of sex and not the act of giving of love, I would not be surprise if she is not married.

Such sexual promiscuity that she promotes has lasting consequences not just on the individuals but also on the economy. The most common result of promiscuity among teenagers is teenage pregnancy, last week a BBC TV series young mums televised fourteen year old mothers one of which had used a condom which ended up splitting, an evidence that contraception do not necessarily work. These young girls could not work so the burden was on their parent to pay for the up keep of the baby as well as on the government to pay varieties of benefit and in most cases provide houses, which in normal circumstances should could been given to those who truly deserve it.

In conclusion it is imperative to reveal some important figures, in Britain the number of children under age 16 diagnosed with STIS (sexually transmitted infections) rose 58 percent from 2003 to 2007— from 2,474 to 3,913. The number of people under 16 diagnosed with Chlamydia the world’s most common STI, rose 90 percent over this period. Last year, 2,020 teenagers were diagnosed with Chlamydia, as compared to just 52 in 2003; around half of all newly diagnosed STIS in the UK are found in people ages 18-24. In 2007, the Chlamydia screening program found that nearly 1 in 10 sexually active young women had the infection. For men, the figure was 1 in 12.

Is this the life we want to live? I believe the world would be a better place if individuals exercise patience and integrity wait for the right person and then a marital commitment should follow sooth, whereby couples could express their true loving commitment bound by marriage through love making. Society has lost this important virtue hence the multiplicity of divorces.
