Anyone who has tried or succeeded in publishing a book knows that getting your book published is a difficult task. However, with the right tools and knowledge, the process will be much easier. There are many things you will need to know about publishing before you go mailing out tons of copies of your book to every publisher. First of all, you should do some research to find which publisher handles the type of book you want to end up selling. Then, you should find out the exact guidelines that your writing must fit into to be considered by that publisher. These steps are essential to having even a chance of the publisher reading and then accepting your book for publishing.

The step of doing research begins with making a list of publishers who deal with the type of book you have written. If you are a children’s book maker you know you need to find all of the publishers for children’s books. You will then need to study what specific children’s books each one publishes to see if it fits your needs. There are many sources for finding out what books a publisher handles, such as searching online or at the library. If you use the publisher’s website, they may also have examples of books they have published previously for you to browse. Once you have found a suitable kid’s book publishing company that fits your needs, you can send off for all of their guidelines.

Once you have received the list of a publisher’s guidelines, you can make sure your work fits into their specific guidelines. You will want to include with your work a self addressed stamped envelope for the return of your work should they not accept it, as a courtesy. In many instances, you will be required to send a query letter before sending in your work to see if they are interested in even seeing it. This doesn’t mean you say “publish my children’s book and here is why”, but rather you should explain your idea and even add a sample of your work in the letter. In any case, the best way to be considered by a publisher is to strictly follow the guidelines they set for submission.

When following the guidelines set for a children’s book author, publishing will be much less of a headache. These helpful tips will help you with all types of kid’s publishing. Whether you’re looking for an educational children’s book publisher, or a picture book publisher, researching who you want to publish with, and then what exactly they want in a client, will make the entire process go smoothly. You should expect to be rejected a few times before you find someone interested in publishing your book. However, it is important to never just mail out one manuscript. If you get rejected, you should try another publisher to see if your work is more suitable to what they like to publish. Using a little research combined with common sense will make choosing a children’s book publisher a breeze.
