Crete is a large island and you are unlikely to be able to take in all of its wonderful offerings in one visit. Here are some of the more beautiful bays and coves across the island.

This tourist attraction is a good way of adding mysterious and adventurous side to your holiday in Crete. The cave has many legend and stories related to it by Greek mythology and adds to the ancient structural value of the Greek island. Standing silent with symbols and icons, the cave is an important part of Minoan era and fascinates tourists and visitors.

Crete is also famous for its gorges: the Samaria Gorge is one of the longest and most imposing gorges in Europe and an attraction that cannot be missed. In Chania, there are a further ten large gorges and another thirty smaller ones, most of which are totally accessible.

There are a wide range of shops in Crete from handcrafts and souvenirs to leather goods, ceramics and carpets. A market in Chania offers fantastic fresh food produce, clothes and also plants. A downside to shopping in Crete as with many other Mediterranean regions is that the majority of shops close during the long afternoon siestas.

The city is widely believed to have been inhabited since the Bronze period. Crete sightseeing locations within Agios Nikolaos include, the Lake Voulismeni, the island Agioi Pantes, beaches along the coastal region, the local archaeological museum and one key flora exhibition "Iris".

Crete's cuisine is similar to that found throughout the Aegean. Fish plays a large part in the form of tuna, swordfish, sea bass, urchins, octopus, squid and cuttlefish. You will find beef, pork, lamb and goat. A rabbit stew is a speciality.
Holidaymakers can do more in Crete than relax on its miles of beaches.

Water activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, paddle boats, glass-bottom boat tours, yachts, canoes, kayaks, surfing and jet skiing abound. There is also plenty to do on land. Consider checking out the Matala Caves, Samaria Gorge, Limnoupolis Water Park, Creteaquarium, walking trails through the mountains, small villages and Greek night life.

A visit to the holy city of Jerusalem is a worthwhile excursion from both Israeli ports - Haifa and Ashdod - on a Mediterranean cruise of the Middle East. Egypt's Port Said is well worth a visit too. Port Said provides access to the world famous Suez Canal, which takes vessels into the Red Sea and onwards in to the Arabian Sea.
