Although many yard sale hosts advertise in local newspaper classifieds, this costs money. On the other hand, it is free to post a yard sale listing on Craigslist.org. That is why more people are doing it.
How can you use Craigslist to learn about local yard sales? There are two steps you can take. One involves searching and the other involves browsing.
Whether you search or browse yard sale postings, you must visit the Craigslist.org website. Then, select your state and city. If you wish to search, make your way to the search box on the left-hand side of the page. Search with the phrases “yard sales” or “garage sales.” If you wish to browse, look at the headings on your city page. Under the for sale category, you will see a section for garage sales.
By implementing the above mentioned steps, you will receive a list of area yard sales. Since Craigslist is city based, but only uses a limited number of cities, you will get lots of information on area yard sales. However, some may not be so local. Weed out these. Luckily this is easy. Most yard sale hosts will state their city or town name in their headline. You can see right away which yard sales are within a reasonable driving distance. Grab a pen and paper to take notes. Write down the date, time, and location of each yard sale you are interested in visiting. You can later use this as a guide to map out your route.
In addition to using Craigslist to find local yard sales, you can also use the website to shop. Sellers have a wide range of items listed for sale, including clothes, toys, movies, books, home decor, exercise equipment, cars, and more. Using the same steps above, you can browse or search these listings. Many bargain shoppers find the service to be a nice alternative to yard sales.
