Hungary offers wonderful balneoresorts - about 400 thermal baths are waiting for you in more than 100 places around the country. Waters of Hungary are mostly used for bathing or drinking. Today we will speak about the thermal resourses of Budapest.

The first is the famous Gellert Bath which could be called the symbol of the city. It was built near the old thermal spring (some say it is about 2000 years old). Today’s building was constructed in 1914 – 1918, and it is one of the few Jugendstil hydropathic establishments. They get thermal water from 10 sources. Since it contains calcium, magnesium, hydrocarbonate, chlorine and sulfur, it is effective when treating musculoskeletal system diseases. By the way, there is Gellert hotel found in the same building. Medical treatment is provided by local doctors.

Rudas thermal bath was built in the second half of the 16th century, and little has changed since then. The bath is nourished by 3 large and 15 smaller springs, with water containing calcium-magnium-hydrocarbonate sulphate and fluorine. It is also used to cure musculoskeletal system diseases and assists body rejuvenation. Also this water can be used when treating digestive system and kidneys.

Lukacs bath was founded during the Turkish rule, and its present building was erected in the second half of the 20th century. Its waters come from several springs and contain calcium, magnesium and hydrocarbonate (hotter ones contain fluorine, chloride and sulfur). These waters are helpful if you need to take care of your spine and joints, as well as treat muscular rheumatism. In addition to balneotherapy treatment (including mud cure) there are other physiotherapy treatment opportunities provided. There is a park by the building, ideal for relaxing. The main attraction of the park is the pavilion with medical water, built in 1937. Its water is helpful if you have problems with gastrointestinal tract.

Kiraly is one of the most beautiful city baths built in the Turkish times. The bath is filled with the atmosphere of the XVI century. During the Turkish rule the bath used water that came from the Lukacs bath. Nowadays the situation is of no great difference – the pipes were changed, though. Kiraly was greatly damaged during the Second World War and was reopened only in 1959.

Szechenyi Bath was opened in 1913. In 1927 a swimming pool and a thermal pool under the blue sky were added to it. Nowadays this is one of the continent’s largest swimming centers, provided with water containing calcium-magnesium-hydrocarbonate and sulphates, with significant fluoride concrentration. People arrive here to treat their Gastric hyperacidities, bone loss and osteoporosis, chronic nephritis and urinary diseases. The most beautiful part of the building is its entrance hall decorated with glass mosaic.

Danubius Thermal and Grand Hotel Margitsziget. Even though these are two different buildings, they are connected by an underground corridor and have one common treatment area. Grand hotel is 134 years old whereas Danubius Thermal was opened in 1979 – at that time it was the country’s most modern hydropathic establishment. The bath gets water from the Margaret Island. In addition to therapeutic treatment, there is stomatology treatment offered. All the doctors are true professionals.

Corinthia Aquincum Hotel is a five-star balneology hotel. Built in 1991, it has all the necessary modern equipment. Waters are also from the Margaret Island.

Danubius Thermal & Conference Hotel Helia is a modern property on the left bank of the Danube river. In addition to modern equipment, it offers numerous treatment opportunities, fitness, swimming pools, excellent conference facilities – that is why many businessmen choose this hotel to relax after a hard working day. Plus to this, the hotel is visited by many sportsmen.
