Use Craigslist To Find Employment After A Layoff
ByMark Burgunder
Were you recently laid off from your job? If so, you should be eligible to receive unemployment benefits, but these will not last forever. That is why you should immediately begin the search for a new job, but where should you look? Try Craigslist.org. The online classified website is a great way to find open positions, some of which you may be the perfect candidate for.
To use Craigslist to find employment after a job layoff, you must visit the website. From there, select your state and then your nearest city. This step is ideal if you are looking for local employment. If interested in relocating to another city or state, you must alter your choices. Unfortunately, the website is designed so that you can only search and browse one city site at a time. You can, however, download the free Craigslist Reader offered by MotionT.com to search multiple cities at once. You can also get new job listing updates by email.
Returning back to your search, look to the left side of the page. It is there where you will find a search box. Change the search settings to jobs and perform your search. Use relative keyword phrases. If you are looking for a job in construction, use “construction,” as your search phrase. After performing your Craigslist search, you will get a list of open positions that meet your search criteria. Begin to examine them.
In addition to searching for jobs on Craigslist.org, you can also browse the website. Once again, select the state and nearest city that you would like to work in. Then, look at the sections on the page. Under jobs, you will see a list of various career fields, such as general labor, retail, security, and so forth. Browsing may appear to be quicker, but a company may mistakenly post their job listing in the wrong category, meaning you never get to see it.
Whether you search for jobs or browse them on the website, you want to look for positions you are qualified for. After doing so, you can start to make contact. Follow all directions. Some job postings ask you to fax or mail your resume, while others want you to call or email to make contact.
