As great as it is to hear that you can sell used cars on Craigslist, how do you get started?

First, visit the website at Craigslist.org. Then, you must select your state and then your closest city. On the next page, you will see an option to post a classified in the upper left-hand corner of the page. You will be directed to a series of pages, where you will select “for sale,” and then “cars & trucks – by dealer.” Here is where you post your used car listings.

You now know how to post used car listings on the popular website, but how can you increase your chances of making a sale?

Set a fair selling price. You are a used car dealer, so you have an accurate idea of vehicle values. With that said, perform a Craigslist search to find other similar vehicles for sale. What are their selling prices? You want to make money, but ensure your asking price is in-line with the competition. The website is city based, meaning you can view listings posted in that city. Include a picture. Used cars with pictures posted are likely to sell quicker. Buyers don’t want to waste time driving to see a used car, only to learn it is nothing like they expected. Do your buyers a favor and include pictures; you will benefit too! At the very least, post a picture of the car’s exterior, but interior pictures are ideal.

Write a professional used car listing and be detailed in your descriptions. As previously stated, buyers want a lot of information about a product, especially a used car. Do more than just state the make, model, and year. Include the mileage, any recent repairs, slight damage, extra features, and more. Make sure your listing is easy to read and proofread for errors before posting to the Craigslist website.
